Medex Consulting & Monash Health, Victoria

Dr Prudence Scott is a practising medical oncologist and Director of Medex Consulting which provides policy and implementation advice to the Australian government on the registration of and payment for medicines, tests and medical devices, particularly for the diagnosis and management of cancer. Her clinical practice in cancer genetics at the Monash Health Familial Cancer Centre includes the counselling, testing and risk management advice for those with a potential cancer predisposition syndrome. Other clinical areas of interest include breast cancer and melanoma.

Dr Scott graduated with an MBChB from the University of Otago in New Zealand, followed by a Master of Philosophy in Management Studies at Templeton College and Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford while a Rhodes Scholar and Nuffield Medical Fellow at the University of Oxford.

Alongside her clinical role, from 2013-16, she was Director of the Oncology/Haematology Evaluation Unit at the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australia’s medicines and medical devices regulatory authority. During that time, she advocated for alignment with other international regulatory approaches including establishing priority review and provisional approval pathways and international worksharing. In 2016, she set up Medex Consulting to bring multidisciplinary expert teams together to provide clinical and scientific advice to regulators and payers, and to develop health technology assessment (payer) approaches and policy across a range of areas. Medex Consulting regularly undertakes clinical evaluations of new cancer medicines and health technology assessments of cancer medicines and complex genetic tests for both cancer and non-cancer conditions. She has a special interest in developing evaluation processes for disruptive health technologies to support their translation from the research setting and integration into routine clinical care.
